Ngamba Island Day Tour

Ngamba Island provides is famously known as a secondary forest habitat for the orphaned chimpanzees home to 48 orphaned chimps rescued from throughout Uganda) and other wildlife species including fruit bats, spiders, fish eagles, otters, and monitor lizards. The Island is part of the Koome group of islands surrounded by Lake Victoria. It is approximately 23 km south-east of Entebbe, It consists of approximately 100 acres, of which 98 acres is forested. The northern part of the island was until 1997 inhabited by a local fishing community. The community had cleared approximately 2 acres of forest and selectively logged large trees from the more proximal parts of the forest. book now

Day 1: Visit Ngamba Island

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel or place of residence in Entebbe or Kampala, thereafter transfer to the water front club and board your speed boat to Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary. Ngamba Island consists of approximately 100 acres, 98 of which are forested and separated from the visitor’s area by an electric fence. Ngamba Island was officially opened to visitors in 1999 and is currently home to 40 orphaned chimpanzees. Upon your arrival you will take the tour of the Island and in the afternoon proceed for a chimpanzee feeding session from the visitor’s platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence, after go picnic lunch and return to the mainland by speed boat for your onward tour program to Uganda wildlife education centre. Evening visit to the Mabamba wetland for bird watching with unmatched life time experience, Return to Entebbe or Kampala where you will be dropped off to your hotel or place of residence of your choice.
