KASOZI Robert Rwizi was born on the banks of River Rwizi which pours it lake Mburo. At a young age we shifted to Biharwe village which boarders with lake Mburo national park. So at a young age he got a chance of seeing wild animal such as Zebras, Impalas Buffalos and different species of birds which would come to attack their crops. As it was a norm by then, it was boys task to chase away such pests from attacking crops. By the time he made ten years, he already knew more than 20 bird species and more than 10 wild animal species in his language, and that was his introduction to birding wildlife and conservation.
One day, as he was grazing goats, he met hunters with a young velvet monkey, he thinks it was less than a week old, he begged them to give it to him and they refused. He offered them a goat in exchange with a baby monkey (it caused him a lot of problems at home but the deal was already sealed). He named that monkey Napoleon from George Orwell’s book Animal farm. It became his pet for 4 years until one day when he forgot to lock it in its cage at night and was eaten by stray dogs.
This is how early he fell in love with nature at a young age. The disappearance of his monkey made him yawn for a job that would bring him closer to wild animals and later when a chance to work as a Tourist guide availed itself, he grabbed it with no doubt.
