Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National park is newest wildlife National Park in Uganda, situated in south west of Uganda between Masaka and Mbarara district with an approximately 4 hours’ drive time from Uganda capital. The park covers an area of 370km² including the lakes (5 lakes). The Park is sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and idyllic lake shore has a varied mosaic of habitats forest galleries, seasonal and permanent swamps and rich acacia wood valleys which all support a wealth of wildlife.

Species in Lake Mburo

Lake Mburo  is endowed  with several  wildlife species  to mention  recently translocated giraffes,  buffaloes, elands, waters bucks, antelopes, zebras, oribis, topis , warthogs as you take a boat cruise on lake Mburo you will be in position to observe ,  hippos and crocodiles.  In addition, the park also is home a wide a ray of birds amounting to 350 species some which include water birds, forest and savanna birds. There are 315 bird species, including red faced barbet, crested crane, shoebill stork and papyrus yellow warbler. The vegetation is dominated by an open Savannah of Acacia trees, Olea and Boscia.

How to get there

Lake Mburo National Park lies between the towns of Masaka and Mbarara in western Uganda, 228km from Kampala – about 3½ hrs drive. Two gates enter the park from the Mbarara road. Approaching from Kampala, the turning to Nshara gate is 13kms past Lyantonde. The junction for Sanga gate is at Sanga trading centre, 27kms past Lyantonde. Both junctions are clearly signposted. It is about 20 minutes drive from either gate to Rwonyo.
