Kampala is the capital city of Uganda, it derives its name from the antelope called Impala that used to loan around the hills. Kampala is one of the interesting cities in East Africa with lots of things to enjoy. While you are visiting Kampala or you are just passing through, please look out for this places:
- Ndere Center: it’s a great place to experience the colorful cultural performances that are traditional to Uganda. ( performs on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays)
- Rubaga Cathedral: This is a seat for the Catholic Church in Uganda. The cathedral also has a museum that traces the coming of Christianity to Uganda.
- Namirembe Cathedral: This is a seat for the Anglican Church in Uganda.
- Gadaffi Mosque: It houses the head offices for Uganda Muslim supreme council. The mosque has a tower where you can get a good aerial of Kampala city
- Kibuli Mosqueis one of the biggest mosques of Uganda with a beautiful view over Kampala; It’s located on Kibuli hill and regarded as the home for Muslims:
- Bulange (Parliament of Uganda): Bulange is one of the most significant buildings found in the palace (Lubiri). It hosts the Kingdom`s administration and its Parliament where the Kabaka meets members of the Buganda Lukiiko (Buganda Parliament).
- Mengo palace: is the official palace for the Kingdom and it is hereditary. It is the official residence for all the Kings of Buganda. In this palace, we find the Kabaka`s official house called Twekobe.
- Fort Lugard: This fort is of national importance and signifies the country’s colonial era under the rule of Captain Lugard as first Governor of the Protectorate. Frederick Lugard was a British soldier who arrived in Uganda in the 1890s and built his fort on top of the Kampala hill.
- Bahai Temple: the mother Temple of the Bahai faith in Africa. And just like the faith it represents, the Bahai temple is no ordinary house of worship. Sitting on 52 acres of land, the temple is a unique architectural master piece
- .Namugongo Martyrs Shrines: This is a place where the Uganda Martyrs were killed from, on 3rd June 1886
- Uganda Museum: It’s the oldest museum in East Africa and Uganda’s national museum. It exhibits ethnological, natural history, and traditional life collection of Uganda’s Heritage.
- Buganda Road craft village: If you interested in crafts, this is the place to go
- Makerere University: The first University in East Africa and the highest institution of learning in Uganda.
- Restaurants with local foods e.g Kembabazi restaurant, 2k restaurant, Baguma Restaurant, St. Anthony restaurant, little Ritz restaurant
Kabaka’s Lake: It’s the biggest man-made lake in Africa. It was during King Mwanga’s reign, he had a plan of linking to Lake Victoria so as his swimming sport easier.
